The recent visit of the Office of the Wali of Bangsamoro to Palawan region, under the stewardship of Officer-in-Charge Omarkhalid A. Ampatuan, signifies a significant step towards engagement beyond the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). This remarkable visit was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Office of the Wali of Bangsamoro, Office for Other Bangsamoro Communities (OOBC), under the leadership of Executive Director Noron Andan, and the Council of Leaders’ member Malik Caril. This visit held a special significance as it fulfilled the dream of the late Wali of Bangsamoro, Sheikh Khalipha U. Nando, who wished to visit the Bangsamoro community in Palawan. Despite his untimely demise and the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the current leadership, led by OIC Ampatuan, is committed to realizing Sheikh Khalipha U, Nando’s vision.
The delegation was received at the Provincial Capitol of Palawan by Executive Assistant V Albert Rama, reflected the enthusiasm of Palawan Community for the visit. The OOBC Executive Director Noron Andan provided insights into the programs and services offered by the BARMM Government to various Bangsamoro communities, it fostered a deeper understanding between the two separated regions. Also present in the courtesy visit was Member of Parliament Honorable Alimontaha Babao. The delegation also visited the Municipality of Dr. Jose P. Rizal where they were warmly received by the Mayor, Honorable Norman S. Ong and expressed gratitude for the efforts made by the BARMM Government to visit the Bangsamoro Community of Palawan. He believed that the visit would bring the community closer to the BARMM Government and provide them with access to services offered by the Bangsamoro Government, headed by Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim.
The visit to the Baytur Rahman at the Municipality of Brooke’s Point, Palawan allowed the OWB to connect with the community’s religious leaders, further strengthen ties. OIC Ampatuan delivered a message during the visit, emphasizing the significance of peace and unity of the Bangsamoro. He also highlighted the unique role of the Wali of Bangsamoro in a predominantly Christian country and underscored the commitment of the BARMM government to inclusivity, ensuring that the Bangsamoro communities in Palawan are not left behind. This visit facilitated information sharing, policy clarification, and updates on BARMM Government initiatives. It served as a crucial platform to unite all Bangsamoro people, fostering unity both within and outside the BARMM Region.
