NEWS

In a significant step towards fostering sustainable peace and understanding, the Office of the Wali of Bangsamoro recently conducted a transformative training initiative titled “GPCT Gender, Peace and Conflict Training.” On August 3-5 2023. This groundbreaking program, held in collaboration with the Nonviolent Peaceforce and Salaam Police Center Eastern Mindanao, aimed to equip personnel from the Joint Peace and Security Team (JPST) in Brgy. Elbebe Columbio Sultan Kudarat with vital skills to address gender-related issues within peace and conflict dynamics.

The JPST Columbio, led by PMAJ Edwin Ramirez Tono, brought together dedicated personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF). This united force, collectively known as JPST, forms the bedrock of efforts to ensure peace and security within Columbio and the region.

The collaboration between the Office of the Wali under the able leadership of OIC Omarkhalid Ampatuan, Nonviolent Peaceforce, and Salaam Police Center Eastern Mindanao signifies a unique approach to conflict resolution. By incorporating gender sensitivity into peacekeeping strategies, this initiative aims to pave the way for more inclusive and sustainable solutions to the complex challenges faced by communities.

The “GPCT Gender, Peace and Conflict Training” delved into various aspects of gender awareness, peace-building, and conflict resolution. Participants engaged in interactive sessions designed to foster a deep understanding of the roles that gender, peace, and conflict play within societies. These insights not only strengthen their capacity to address gender-based issues but also enhance their ability to contribute to a peaceful environment.

PMAJ Edwin Ramirez Tono expressed his commitment to building a harmonious community. He highlighted the significance of integrating gender considerations into the peacekeeping process, as it fosters a holistic approach that resonates with the values of inclusivity and equality.

As the Office of the Wali continues to champion progressive initiatives like this, the Bangsamoro region moves closer to a future defined by understanding, unity, and lasting peace.(OWB/Datu Jabir Gandawali)
